Metal Man

Metal on metal
clanks down the street
a bit of rust screeching
and the turning of gears.

People try not to stare.
But I’m curious.

It’s boots are polished,
and patent leather.
But it can’t need boots
Can it?

And it’s wearing trousers,
crisp and pressed.
A dress shirt,
buttoned up to the collar.

A dinner jacket
a red rose hankerchief
tucked in the pocket

And it’s even wearing gloves for God’s sake.

Well now you cant see its body,
only the face gives it away,
dark and metallic.
And even then,
they tried to make it smooth,
they tried to make it human.
But still, it’s not like ours.

And I know they say,
the metal is like our stars
and the sparkle is like our eyes,
but I can’t stand to see
our property walking down the street.
